Welcome to a new school year!
On CBU’s campus, the increased clickety-clacks of skateboarding signal the return of students and resurgence of the rhythms of academic life. The hum and buzz of machinery maintaining and refurbishing various campus locations during the summer are replaced with the hum and buzz of students and faculty resuming paused conversations and launching new discourses now that it’s fall. It’s a pleasant and anticipated transition.
One of the perks of life in The Academy is the comfort that accompanies the sounds and rhythms of the school year. As summer ends, we prepare for a brand new crop of fresh and eager minds and we welcome back familiar faces and smiles. Each student brings her or his individual story and we all get another year together for learning, sharing, and developing. Science supports the benefits of rhythms, routines, and rituals as they provide effective mechanisms to manage our lives as we also pursue balance and adjust to unanticipated disruptions. That we do life with regular patterns and order is truly a gift from God.
Our Creator has masterfully modeled how to capitalize on the moments, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, seasons, and years each of us are allotted. While we might be tempted to immediately think about ways the Bible helps us to strategize our calendars for efficiency and time maximization, we may be surprised to discover that overwhelmingly, the Scriptures encourage us to invest our time in people. We are created for community and the world of The Academy is no exception. As we begin another school year filled with both familiar and unfamiliar sights and sounds, may we also listen even more closely for the privilege and opportunity of doing life together.
